The police have apprehended four suspected armed robbers at Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region following a violent robbery attack on the Winneba Highway.

The suspects in question reportedly ambushed vehicles and robbed commuters of cash and personal belongings around 11 pm on Sunday, June 1, 2025.

According to the police, the robbers initially fled the scene upon learning that police officers from the Central East Regional Police Command’s anti-robbery unit were on their way.

However, the robbers returned around 1:00 am to resume their operation, unaware that police were still patrolling the area.

The police immediately arrested four individuals believed to be involved in the attack.

This comes after the Ho Circuit Court sentenced three individuals to a total of 19 years in prison for their involvement in a violent robbery that took place near the Ho Central Market on May 4, 2025.

Mercy Sokpe, 22, Atsu Kamasa, 25, and Godfred Dzidonu, 19, were convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery after pleading guilty.

According to a statement by DSP Felix Danku, the three had planned to steal an iPhone 6S valued at GH¢700 from 21-year-old Elijah Torgbedzi.

Mercy Sokpe approached Torgbedzi under the guise of wanting to take a selfie with his phone.

Once she had the phone in hand, she signaled her accomplices, who attacked the victim with scissors before fleeing with the phone.

The victim managed to raise an alarm, leading to the quick arrest of Godfred Dzidonu, who was found with the stolen phone. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the other two suspects.

During the court session, all three defendants admitted to their roles in the crime. Each was sentenced to three years for conspiracy to commit robbery.

Atsu Kamasa and Godfred Dzidonu received five years for the robbery charge.
