Suspect arrested in murder of UEW Lecturer

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the murder of a senior lecturer from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The victim’s body was found buried near his home in Essuokyir, in the Central Region.

In a statement issued on May 22, 2025, the police explained that the suspect, Joshua Karry Arthur, was taken into custody after officers responded to a missing person report filed by the lecturer’s colleagues on May 21, 2025.

The colleagues had alerted police after repeated attempts to reach the lecturer proved unsuccessful.

“Police proceeded to the residence of the deceased, where the suspect was found and arrested,” the statement said.

In a thorough search of the property, investigators detected blood stains leading to a heap of sand approximately 23 metres from the house.

Clearing the sand uncovered a buried body, believed to be that of the missing academic. The remains have since been transferred to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Authorities retrieved several personal items belonging to the lecturer from the suspect, which included two Samsung phones, a laptop, a 50-inch television, and a car key for a Toyota Fortuner.

The suspect is currently in police custody, cooperating with the investigation, and is expected to be brought before the court soon.

The Central Regional Police assure the public of their commitment to delivering justice in this case.
