Clubs in Ghana have stopped scouting for players – Henry Asante Twum
Henry Asante Twum spokesman for Ghana Football Association has bemoaned the lack of scouting by clubs in Ghana.
According to Mr. Twum, previously clubs go around the country to pick players for their teams and at some point fought for the signature of the best players in the country. That is not so now clubs are rather interested in picking players from outside Ghana without considering if they fit into their teams.
Speaking to Guide Radio monitored by Footballghana.com the FA’s spokesman added that football administrators were more involved in the scouting of players across the length and breadth of the country.
“At that time they were not even going beyond the borders of Ghana they fought for the best players we have in Ghana. Look Stephen Oduro is a Kumasi boy he ended up at RTU, Dan Acquah Kumasi boy he ended up at I think BA United you will come back home. Joe Hendricks was doing fabulously well in Hasaacas or something they went for him,” he said
“Hearts of Oak by halfway through the season they have already done their recruitment because Harry Zakour himself will pick a phone and call you. When last did we hear a tussle of a player here in Ghana, Kofi Abanga it dragged on for four months Aduana to Hearts of Oak,”
“The famous Charles Taylor at one point when Ade Coker had released Charles Taylor’s card to Herbert Mensah the player said I will play for Hearts. He refunded the money to Kotoko the boy came to play for Hearts of Oak won the Champions League eventually went to Kotoko. I am saying that today they (clubs) don’t even scout for the players,”
