Coldstore-Knights Controversial B’ball Contest: We will act once we get the official game report- ABL Director

Accra Basketball League (ABL) Director, Alex Kukula, has stated that the league is ready to hand out sanctions to curb indiscipline in the league.

He delivered this message in an interview after the league’s biggest game thus far in the 2025 ABL Men’s Division I season ended in a controversial 2-0 win for Spintex Knights over Nungua Coldstore by default.

The brilliant game between two of the best basketball teams in Ghana ended 75-75 at the end of regulation time but the thrilling contest ended quiet quickly in over time.

Close to the end of the game in regulation time, Coldstore’s bench was ejected for leaving the bench to get involved in an on-court altercation according to the game officials.

Through this, foul trouble and injuries picked up in the course of the game, Coldstore run out of players to see out the overtime period leading to Knights’ win by default.

However, at several points in the game, play had to be stopped as some fans pelted the playing surface with water sachets plus other incidents and according to the ABL Director, sanctions will be handed out once the game report is presented.

“They [game officials] have to give us an official report then the disciplinary committee will look at it. It’s the crew chief, that’s the head of the referees who were on the court; they will write the report then we will know what has gone on and we will use that report and refer it to the disciplinary for sanctions to be handed out” Alex Kukula said.

Knights beat Coldstore in last year’s finals to win the league title.
