Coronavirus: Ghana cases rise to 19

The number of coronavirus infections in the country has increased to 19.

Three new infections of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, were detected on March 20.

Two were reported from the Greater Accra Region and one from the Ashanti Region.

The first was a 55-year-old Ghanaian woman who returned from the UK within the last two weeks. After showing symptoms, samples of her fluid were extracted and tested positive after laboratory analysis.

The other was an 84-year-old Ghanaian female resident of the United Kingdom. The octogenarian also returned to Ghana within the past two weeks. She developed symptoms and samples confirmed positive in the laboratory.

The last of the three new cases was a 27-year-old Chinese male. He returned to Ghana and went to the Ashanti Region in the past two weeks. He also developed symptoms which matched the case definition of the Ghana Health Service (GHS). The results came out positive after tests.

This brings to a total of nineteen 19 confirmed cases in Ghana, with no death. Contact tracing has started in all the confirmed cases, with 600 people identified for the first 16 infections.
