Coronavirus: Start a mandatory test for all MPs, civil servants and gov’t officials who entered Ghana in the past two weeks – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Sam Dzata George, has asked the government to consider conducting a mandatory test for all state officials who travelled in the last two weeks.

The list, he said, includes parliamentarians, civil servants and government appointees who travelled outside Ghana in the past two weeks.

“As a start, can we have a mandatory test of all MPs who have travelled outside Ghana in the past two weeks, myself included. Then let’s also have a test of all government officials and public servants who have been outside the country in the past two weeks.”

In a Facebook post, the legislature argued that the exercise would serve as an example of good leadership and to boost public confidence.

“It is important we show leadership on the issue of testing and self-reporting. We need this example to boost public confidence in the processes that are in place and encourage the citizenry to report all suspicious symptoms to the relevant authorities,” he added.

It is important we show leadership on the issue of testing and self-reporting. We need these examples to boost public confidence in the processes that are in place and encourage the citizenry to report all suspicious symptoms to the relevant authorities.

We need to rally around the flag at this moment and be extra vigilant in our collective quest to overcome the menace of this novel coronavirus. Parents should pay close attention to our children and monitor them. Places of worship should improve preventive care protocols and schools, as well as all large gatherings, must take utmost precautionary steps.

We are not in normal times, but I believe that just as we overcame the threat and fear of EBOLA, we shall overcome this too. Stay safe and vigilant. Pray for the Motherland. 🦁🙏🏾
