Council of State election: 32-year-old gold dealer wins in Western Region

Maxwell Boakye, a 32-year-old gold dealer, has been elected as the Western Region’s representative to the Council of State following a competitive election where he secured 17 out of 28 votes.

In a race featuring nine candidates, Mr. Boakye stood out and claimed victory against formidable opponents, including one who had the backing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional executives.

Among the candidates were several distinguished individuals, including Akwasi Nsiah-Awuah, Adjei Clement, Nana Akosua Gyamfiaba II, Nana Nkanomako IV, Nana Bonya Kofi VI, Morttey Ernest Selorm, Jacob Oppon-Acquah, and Mohammed Danjumah Alhassan.

The election, held today, February 11, 2025, witnessed a strong turnout from regional stakeholders and delegates.

With this victory, Boakye is set to represent the Western Region on the Council of State, a vital constitutional body tasked with advising the president on various national matters.

His role will be crucial in guiding decisions related to governance, policy development, and regional advancement.
