Customs officer, two others nabbed as NACOC seizes 53.6kg of cannabis

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted 92 slabs of suspected cannabis weighing 53.6 kilograms at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The bust occurred on Sunday, May 18, 2025, during a routine inspection of incoming passengers. According to NACOC, the illicit substance was being smuggled into the country by a British national who arrived aboard Emirates flight EK 787 from Thailand via Dubai.

Operatives discovered the cannabis concealed in two suitcases.

Further investigations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices,  a customs officer and a worker at the Commercially Important Person (CIP) section of the airport.

Deputy Director of NACOC, Alexander Twum Barimah, confirmed the arrests and issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to smuggle narcotics into the country, as well as to security personnel who may be complicit.

“All those involved will face the full force of the law,” he stated.

The three suspects are currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
