Dampare’s contribution will not be forgotten – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to the immediate past Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, for his contribution to national security.

In his address at the swearing-in of the new IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the president thanked Dr Dampare for his dedication and commitment and wished him well in his endeavours.

“Let me take this opportunity to extend my deepest gratitude to the outgoing Inspector General of Police. He has served with dedication and commitment, and his contribution to law enforcement and national security will not be forgotten. We thank him for his service and wish him well in his future endeavours,” he said.

Dr. Dampare was appointed as the acting Inspector General of Police of the Ghana Police Service by former President Nana Akufo-Addo on July 21, 2021.

He took over from James Oppong-Boanuh, who had been serving since October 2019.

He was the youngest IGP in the Fourth Republic of Ghana and the eighth youngest since Ghana gained independence.

Dr Dampare served until the appointment of COP Yohuno on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

The presidency confirmed that the decision to replace him was made in line with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, following consultations with the Council of State.
