David Moyes has explained the illness which kept Kurt Zouma out of the West Ham lineup for their 2-2 draw with Leicester City.

The defender has been heavily criticised recently for his disgraceful attack on his own cats, and he is currently under investigation by the NSPCA.

Despite Zouma’s horrific off-field actions, David Moyes has surprisingly been keen to play the centre-back regardless, explaining that it is a footballing decision.

Zouma played on Wednesday in the immediate aftermath of the video of him kicking a cat was released, and he was also set to play in Sunday’s game – being named in the original starting XI for said game. However, prior to kick off the French defender was scratched from the lineup and replaced by Issa Diop due to a mystery ‘illness’.

Speaking to the press after the game, Moyes has shed some light on the Zouma illness:

“Kurt was not well last night and did not eat with us today and stayed out of the meeting. Just in case it was sickness and he could not make it despite being desperate to play

“It was a sickness virus so I expect him to be back [next week].”

West Ham’s next Premier League game is against Newcastle United at London Stadium on 19th February.
