Four additional victims have lost their lives following a tragic assault and arson in Walewale on February 14, 2025.
Among the deceased are one Burkinabe and three Togolese nationals who suffered gunshot wounds during the attack.
One body was burnt beyond recognition but was later identified the following morning.
The registration number GR 7501-21 bus had left the ADT station at Pulukoom in the Pusiga District but encountered mechanical issues near Loagri, close to a police checkpoint.
On the day of the incident, the driver went to Tamale to seek mechanical assistance, leaving the bus under the supervision of police officers, the mate, and the passengers.
Eyewitnesses described a scene of chaos as armed assailants opened fire at the bus, forcing passengers and police to scramble for safety. The attackers shot indiscriminately and subsequently set the bus ablaze.
Initially, three individuals, including a young child, died.
Another victim was found in the wreckage of the bus on Saturday, February 15, increasing the toll. Additionally, one injured individual who had been taken to Walewale Hospital succumbed to the injuries that same day.
In the early hours of Sunday, February 16, two more victims who were transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital passed away from their wounds.
All of those who perished in this horrific incident were identified as nationals of Burkina Faso and Togo.
