Declare assets before May 7 or face dismissal – Mahama warns appointees

President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to all political appointees who failed to meet the March 31, 2025, asset declaration deadline, giving them until the end of Wednesday, May 7, 2025, to comply or face immediate dismissal from office.

According to President Mahama, declaring assets as a government appointee is a crucial tool in fighting corruption and maintaining trust in the public sphere.

The President made this remark while speaking at the launch of a new code of conduct for public officials on Monday, May 5, 2025.

He criticised his appointees who missed the deadline and described their action as unacceptable, and stressed that accountability is non-negotiable in his administration.

“Kindly do not put me in a position where I have to make that drastic choice. When it comes to protecting the integrity of this government, I will not compromise,” he noted.

President Mahama also added that those who missed the 31 March deadline must also forfeit three months’ salary, which will be donated to the Mahama Cares Medical Trust Fund.

This is in addition to the one-month salary already required from all appointees.

This simply means that instead of the one-month salary, defaulters will contribute four months’ salary to the fund.

The President also announced a new public portal to allow citizens to report violations of the code of conduct anonymously and safely.

“This is more than a code, it’s a declaration of intent. We are here to serve, and we will serve with honour,” he added.
