Deputy Ghana EXIM Bank CEO, Nana Ama Poku, wins Global Leadership Excellence Award

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import (EXIM) Bank, Nana Ama Poku, has won the prestigious Global Leadership Excellence Award.

This is in recognition of her dedication, service, and contribution to the development of the public sector in Ghana.

Mrs Poku in a speech dedicated the award to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for his commitment to gender equality and equity in Ghana and his belief in the capabilities of many competent women in Ghana.

She was also full of praise of the Board, Management and staff of the Ghana Exim Bank, for all the support and encouragement she continues to receive from them.

At the Ghana Exim Bank, Mrs Poku is primarily responsible for executing set targets of the bank’s corporate strategy while positioning it as the primary source of financing for the Ghanaian exporter and strategic importer.

She is further responsible for customised product development and drives the strategy for management of the asset portfolio with an emphasis on minimum impairment levels.

Embedded in her role is the need for a focus on SME development, focus on the reduction of the national bill in specific sectors, that is, import-substitution, raw material base development, creation of networking/synergies among stakeholders, Non-Traditional Export (NTE) diversification, and support for locally manufactured products.

The award ceremony took place as part of the seventh edition of the South America-Africa-Middle East-Asia Women Summit (SAMEAWS).

The event, held in Duba, was organised by the Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD).

Held on  the theme, ‘Developing Female Transformational Leaders: A New Paradigm for Growing Emerging Economies’, the summit brought together influential and prominent women as well as key stakeholders from various regions

It was designed to discuss issues affecting the 21st-century woman.

The annual SAMEAWS Summit hosts women leaders in the corporate world, representatives of heads of government, leaders of academia, and seasoned entrepreneurs to share their thoughts on leadership, women empowerment, gender equality, discrimination, strengthening women participation in politics among others.

Some prominent Women Leaders present at the 2019 SAMEAWS Summit were Sheikha Dr Hind Abdul Aziz Bin Hameed Al Qassmi, Chairperson, Arab Centre for Educational Investments, Ms Freda Prempeh, Deputy Minister for Gender Children and Social Protection; Reem Ibrahim Al Hashimy, the United Arab Emirate’s Minister of State for International Cooperation and Director-General  Expo 2020, Dubai; Dr Hannatu Adamu Fika, Chairperson, CELD Global Advisory Board and Ms Samata Bukai, Consul-General of Ghana to Dubai.
