Don’t allow debts to become judgment debts – Betty Mould to gov’t

Former Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu has called on state officials to ensure that cases involving the state are dealt with diligently in order to avoid instances of judgment debts.

Mrs. Mould Iddrisu recounted the illegal judgement debt case of businessman, Alfred Woyome  and insisted governments should not allow such cases to become judgement debts in the first place.

She stressed, “Whatever case we start handling should be seen to the latter. There is the need to pursue such cases to the very end in order to protect the public coffers.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Woyome has pleaded with the Supreme Court to halt the sale of his properties to offset the GH¢47.2 million he owes the state.

In an application to stay the execution of an order by the court for his properties to be sold to settle his debt, the businessman pledged to immediately pay GH¢10 million and subsequently pay an amount of GH¢ 4 million every ninety days till he reaches the amount due the state.

The Supreme Court, a few weeks ago priced two of the properties of Mr. Woyome earmarked for sale at a minimum of GH¢11.7 million.

The properties which are residential facilities are located at Kpehe and Trassaco Valley were pegged at a minimum of GH¢3.4 million and GH¢8.3 million respectively.
