Don’t blame us over Otumfuo statue, Manhyia approved it – Consultant

The Brazilian construction firm which redeveloped the Kejetia lorry terminal and also built a statue in honour of the Otumfuo  says it cannot be blamed for how the image turned out.

Residents of Kumasi are angry at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Suame Municipal Chief executive Dr. Bobie Ansah for supervising what they say is a  poor job on the statue built in honour of the Asante monarch.

Speaking to Abusua FM, Consultant to the project said they cannot be blamed for the turn out of the sculpture because the palace was involved every step of the way.

“From the beginning of the project we got a green light from Manhyia before we awarded the contract to the KNUST sculpture department. Manhyia was involved in every stage until its completion. Let me tell you we couldn’t have unveiled the statue if Manhyia is dissatisfied with the work,’’ he explained.

He added: “ Otumfuo’s stutue may look misrepresented to you depending on where you are picturing it from, if you stand close to  it you might think it is not him but, if you stand afar you will realise that is Otumfuo’’.

Meanwhile, the spelling mistake on the sculpture has been corrected.

The error ridden one read: “ this Plaque was unveiled by Nana Akufo-Addo President of the republic on 2nd May,2019 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the ‘enstoolement’ of the Asantehene, Otumfio Osei Tutu II”. It now reads this “Plaque was unveiled by Nana Akufo-Addo President of the republic on 2nd May, 2019 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the enstoolment of the Asantehene, Otumfio Osei II”.
