Dr. Adutwum declares intent to run for NPP flagbearership ahead of January primaries
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister, has officially announced his intention to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary for the upcoming 2028 general elections.
In a post shared on Facebook on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum expressed his commitment to participate in the race when the party opens nominations.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he stated.
The former Education Minister made the same announcement in a video shared on his Facebook page.
Dr. Adutwum adds his name to a growing list of candidates vying for leadership within the party, which already includes notable figures like Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, businessman and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Minister for Agriculture Bryan Acheampong.
This announcement comes shortly after the NPP set January 31, 2026, as the date for its presidential primaries, a decision confirmed during a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, June 17.
The party’s National Council has also endorsed this timeline.
