3 dead, 2 in critical condition following truck accident at Akyem Asafo

Three persons have lost their lives in a severe accident involving three trucks at Akyem Asafo, situated in the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The unfortunate incident that occurred on the morning of Monday, May 12, 2025, on the Accra-Kumasi highway also left two others in critical condition.

They are currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.

According to eyewitnesses, a Scania truck with registration number GS 6429-11 collided with a Howo tipper truck and a stationary DAF trailer loaded with cocoa.

 

The DAF trailer, with the registration number 6294-11, had broken down in the middle of the road when the collision happened.

The force of the crash resulted in the deaths of the Scania truck driver and two female passengers, believed to be traders travelling together.

Emergency teams from the Ghana National Fire Service in Bunso were swiftly joined by personnel from the Suhum command, the Suhum Police MTTD, and the Ghana National Ambulance Service to execute rescue operations and manage the traffic situation.

The deceased have been taken to the mortuary at Suhum Government Hospital for identification and preservation.

Currently, the police have begun an investigation into the circumstances which led to the gory accident.
