EC in bed with NPP – Sammy Gyamfi suspects
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suspects some ‘underhand dealings’ between the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Electoral Commission.
” . . why would the NPP have a copy of the provisional voters’ register when we don’t,” National Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi questioned, while contributing to a panel discussion on Peace FM’s morning show ‘Kokrokoo’.
The NDC has dragged the EC to court for failing to make a copy of the provisional voters’ register available to them.
National Chairman of the party, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, announced this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday.
“We have only one day left for the exhibition of the voters’ register to close. Yet, the Jean Mensa and Bossman Asare team has not provided the NDC with a copy of the 2019 provisional register as required by law. According to regulation 22(2) of the Public Elections Regulations (Voter Registration) C.I.91 and I quote, ‘At the end of the compilation of the provisional register as provided in sub-regulation (1), a copy of the provisional register shall be given to each registered political party in the form determined by the Commission,’” Mr Ofosu Ampofo said.
Meanwhile, the EC has denied giving the provisional voters’ register to the NPP. According to them, all the political parties will get it by September ending.
