EC to pay field operatives by April 30
Four months after the Electoral Commission (EC) engaged field operatives for the 2020 general election, the commission is yet to pay them.
Some of the officials had expressed concerns over the delay in payment with occasional agitations on social media.
However, the EC has assured the operatives they would be paid by April 30, 2021.
In a statement, the election management body called for calm as it engages the Ministry of Finance to have payments executed.
“The Commission regrets the delay in effecting the payment and assures all Field Operatives that arrangements are being made to ensure the timely release of funds,” the release said.
“The Commission thanks its hardworking and dedicated team of field operatives who lived by its motto and contributed to making the 2020 elections successful, transparent, timely, credible, and peaceful”.
Every election, the EC engages the services of individuals to help in the election processes at various polling stations and collation centres.
These operatives are in charge of the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), voter registers, and the issuance of the ballot papers.
