Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has praised ECOWAS for its pivotal role in promoting regional unity and development over the past five decades.
Speaking at the launch of the ECOWAS Golden Jubilee celebrations on Tuesday, April 22, at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mr Ablakwa described the milestone as an opportunity to reflect on the organisation’s achievements and recommit to its founding ideals.
He acknowledged the progress made in regional integration, peace and security, and economic cooperation, while also recognising the efforts of the visionary leaders who laid the foundation for ECOWAS.
“This anniversary reminds us of the strength in unity and the potential we have when we work together for a common future,” he said.
Mr Ablakwa encouraged all member states to build on the foundation laid and pursue deeper collaboration to ensure that every West African benefits from inclusive growth and a stable region.
The celebration, which marks 50 years since ECOWAS was established, continues across the sub-region with various activities planned to honour the journey so far and chart the path ahead.
