Egyptian coach dies while celebrating his team’s late winner

An Egyptian football coach Adham El-Selhadar passed away after suffering a heart attack while celebrating his team’s last-minute winner.

The 53-year-old coach of El Magd was in a joyous mode after his side secured a 92nd- minute winner over El Zarqa in the Egyptian second division match played on Thursday.

El-Selhadar was rushed to the hospital but was unfortunately pronounced dead.

After his death was confirmed, several top-flight clubs such as Al Ahly and Ismaily released statements to offer their condolences.

“Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib, president of the club, and the members of the Board of Directors mourn with great sadness and sorrow, Coach Adham El-Selhadar, the former Ismaily player, who passed away on Thursday, praying to the Almighty to cover the deceased with his vast mercy and enter him into his vast gardens,” Al Ahly posted on Twitter.

Ismaily announced three days of mourning, saying: “The Ismaily Board of Directors, headed by Engineer Yahya El-Komy, mourns the death of Adham El-Selhadar, a star and former coach of the team, who passed away as a result of a sudden heart attack, following his follow-up to the match of his team, “El-Majd” Alexandria, in the second division league competitions.

Meanwhile, El Magd, currently sitting seventh in the Egyptian second division table after picking up 14 points from nine games, has announced a six-day mourning period and postponed their next match.
