A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Navrongo in the Upper East Region on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, as an electrician in his early 30s was electrocuted while undertaking a maintenance exercise.
The deceased, an employee of Alaye Electricals, was reportedly fixing a power issue on a utility pole near Navrongo Secondary School.
Eyewitnesses narrated that the young man climbed the pole following a power outage in the area on the day of the incident.
Unfortunately, power was restored while he was still on the pole, leading to electrocution and his instant death.
“There was a problem with the high-tension poles, so he was called to fix it. The power was out when he arrived, but while working, the electricity was restored, leading to his tragic death,” a local reporter revealed in an interview with Citi News.
His body was later retrieved and transported to the War Memorial Hospital mortuary in Navrongo.
This troubling incident comes after an unidentified young man was electrocuted during an attempt to steal cables belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Potsin in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
Residents of the community found his body face down, close to an electric pole near the Potsin T.I. Ahmadiya Senior High School.
According to the residents, they experienced sporadic power outages in the previous days.
While investigating the cause, the community discovered that some electrical cables had been stolen close to where the body was found.
