Energy expert push for load-shedding timetable ahead of July 13 outage

A stakeholder in the energy sector is calling on the government to issue an interim load-shedding timetable ahead of a planned nationwide power outage scheduled for Sunday, July 13.

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the outage is necessary to allow ENI, the country’s gas supplier, to carry out critical maintenance works.

The disruption will stem from a temporary shutdown of gas valves to facilitate rehabilitation efforts aimed at boosting gas output.

Speaking to the media, Benjamin Nsiah, Energy Analyst and Executive Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy, stressed the need for advanced communication to help consumers prepare.

“This shortage is due to scheduled maintenance by ENI. It’s essential for the Ministry to provide a clear plan to guide electricity users and minimize disruptions,” he said.

Mr. Nsiah noted that not all parts of the country are likely to be affected simultaneously, emphasising the need for a detailed load management schedule.

“Critical service providers should be exempted from the outage, and there must be a clear timetable showing which areas will be affected and when. That way, the public can plan ahead,” he added.

Energy experts warn that without proper coordination and timely information, the planned outage could cause unnecessary disruptions for households, businesses, and essential service providers.
