Fame got to my head; it controlled my past life – Lord Kenya

One Ghanaian musician whose turn-around in life, from rap music to preaching the word of God, shocked many was Abraham Philip Akpor Kojo, widely known as Lord Kenya.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Tuesday, the award-winning hiplife artiste, who is currently an evangelist, said being famous caused him a lot in life.

According to the ‘Sika Baa’ hitmaker, he got to fame through music but could not locate his focal point in life hence “was rather into drugs, alcohol and women.”

He told Andy Dosty: “I think during my time I didn’t know anything called trend. I only wanted to be popular and it happened. I felt special but I didn’t know what fame was and I don’t think I handled it well. It got to my head.”

At a point, Lord Kenya said people tagged him to be arrogant because “there were things I could easily do but now I couldn’t do it anymore [after the fame].”

He advised musicians to keenly “watch the friends around them” since “[a] couple of friends who I thought were my friends took advantage of my fame for their personal gains.”

“Who is close? Who is saying I love you? Whoever tells you you’re right all the time don’t love you. Ask yourself why you’re a star. God did that so others can learn from you positively,” he advised.
