Father ‘chops’ off son’s ear over missing GH₵250

A 55-year old father, Osmanu Mumuni, is in the grips of the Weija Police for allegedly cutting the ear of his 10-year-old son with a blade.

Mumuni accused his son of stealing an amount of GH₵250.

On May 17, 2020, the boy’s mother complained to the police that her ex-husband, Osman Mumuni, who had custody of the child, cut off part of the boy’s right ear with a blade. He also placed the boy’s fingers in an open fire after suspecting him of stealing GH¢250.

The incident occurred at Obuom-Domeabra.

The victim who was in severe pains at the time of the report, and with marks of assault all over his body was sent to the Amanfro Polyclinic where he was treated and discharged.

His mother has now taken custody of the victim as investigations continue into the matter.

The father of the victim confessed to committing the assault, but added his son is disobedient, hence the punishment. He is, however, expected to be put before court for prosecution.

This is the second time in a week that a father is in trouble with the law for physically abusing his son.

On May 13, Joy News reported that a three-year-old boy is battling for his life at the Manhyia Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region after his biological father whipped him with a belt and power cables for bedwetting.
