Joy filled the Yakubu Tali International Airport in Tamale as the first group of Ghanaian pilgrims returned from Saudi Arabia after completing the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage.
Over 400 pilgrims arrived on Friday, June 20, marking the beginning of the return journey for the thousands of Muslims who traveled for the spiritual exercise.
In total, seven flights are expected to bring back all the pilgrims, with the final flight scheduled to arrive on June 27.
Families, friends, and government officials gathered at the airport to welcome their loved ones with smiles, cheers, and heartfelt embraces.
The emotional scenes reflected the importance of Hajj to Ghana’s Muslim community and the significance of a safe return.
Chairman of the Hajj Task Force, Alhaji Collins Dauda, commended the support received from the government and lauded the efforts of the organizers and volunteers.
“In the history of Hajj organization, the President gave out a Ram and the white cloth used by male pilgrims. Though a Christian, he has shown that he is a leader for all,” Alhaji Dauda said.
The returning pilgrims had earlier departed Tamale on May 10 and were drawn from various communities across northern Ghana.
Their journey reflects both religious devotion and national coordination, offering a moment of pride for all involved in the process.
As the remaining six flights make their way back, preparations are in place to ensure the rest of the pilgrims are welcomed home with the same warmth and care.
