Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan suggests five-to-ten-year development plan for Ghana football
Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has proposed a five-to-ten-year development plan for Ghana football in a bid to end the country’s trophy drought.
The West African nation has not won the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982 despite coming close three times, reaching the finals in 1992, 2010 and 2015.
In an interview with Asempa FM monitored by Footballghana.com, the all-time top scorer of the Black Stars suggested a plan whiles explaining how the country can restore it lost glory.
“We have to limit our expectations and that is the only thing. we need to draw either 5 year or a 10-year development plan. Look at Senegal they drew a plan and now they are dominating Africa”
“Ghanaians wanted us to win the world cup when we participated in it for the first time. It’s not that I don’t have confidence as a player to win the trophy, but it should be planned. The Netherlands has participated in every world cup, so we really have to limit our expectations when it comes to tournaments”
“Let’s groom the team we have now. When we go to a tournament and win the trophy it will be a bonus but that wasn’t the plan. Sometimes it happens”
“We need to have a 5-year or a 10-year development plan. We put pressure on the young ones when we think we are going to win every tournament we participate in. With such a plan Ghana football will rise again,” he said.
