Fulani herdsman allegedly kills pregnant wife in Dormaa West
Residents of Frimpongkrom in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region have been left shaken after a Fulani herdsman allegedly murdered his pregnant wife.
The victim, Barikisu, was four months pregnant at the time of her death. According to locals, she had endured repeated abuse from her husband, Mahmoud.
Concerned for her safety, she reportedly shared her struggles with their landlord and his wife, expressing a desire to return to her family in Northern Ghana.
Mahmoud, however, is said to have begged her to stay, promising to change his ways. That promise, however, turned out to be fleeting.
On the night of the incident, the couple were reportedly having dinner when Mahmoud allegedly stood up without warning and attacked Barikisu, killing her on the spot.
A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “She had finally gathered courage to leave, but he sweet-talked her into staying. Now she’s gone forever”.
Mahmoud fled the scene after the act but was later arrested by police. The community is in mourning, and many are calling for justice for the young woman and her unborn child.
