The Ga East Municipal Assembly has impounded excavators from an ongoing construction project at a Ramsar site at Abokobi in Accra.
The assembly alleges that the construction was being executed by the order of Ibrahim Faila, the Municipal Chief Executive for La Nkwantanang, a border locality, who has since demanded the release of the seized items.
Ramsar sites are internationally recognised wetlands designated for their ecological significance.
However, rising encroachment has triggered state-led demolitions aimed at protecting their long-term environmental value.
