Gabby Otchere-Darko under fire over comments on xenophobic attacks

Source The Ghana Report

A lot of people have reacted in disgust and horror following reports of fresh xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Several videos capturing the rather disturbing acts of assault on foreign nationals resident in the country have flooded the internet in the past few days. The available footages have caused many to voice out concerns with some others taking rather extreme positions such as calling for the deportation of South African nationals in other countries.

Gabby Otchere-Darko, a leading light in the governing New Patriotic Party has added to the commentary.

The lawyer has added his voice to the many who are condemning the cruelty being meted out on other African nationals in South Africa.

Not many Ghanaians are however pleased with his take on the issue, it appears.

In his bid to clarify how other African countries helped South Africa in the apartheid period, the founder of the Dankwa Institute wrote “Sometimes the people you step out of your way to help are those who can hurt you the most. The irony of kindness.”

Some social media users have interpreted his tweet as an act of hypocrisy.
