GES suspends all internal transfers

The Ghana Education Service(GES) has directed that all its internal transfers be suspended immediately.

This was contained in a circular signed by the GES Acting Director of Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD), Angela Frimpomaa Nkansah.

In the circular dated February 1, 2023, management instructed all regional directors to communicate the directive to all Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.

“You would be communicated to when modalities concerning internal transfers are reviewed,” it added.

This comes a few days after teacher unions in the Western Region raised issues with the massive transfers of teachers in the region, especially in the Nzema East District.

The unions are the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers-Ghana (CCT-Ghana).

According to them, much as it was the prerogative of the regional education director to take such decisions, it must be done in a humane way.

In a press briefing on Monday, January 30, the teachers said their intention was “not to take away the Director’s exercise of her power of discretion, but to appeal to her to consider the times we find ourselves in so that any decision taken to affect teachers do not negatively impact on their social and economic lives.”
