Ghana Basketball: If we are not ready to spend, we won’t make it up there- Dr. Opoku-Antwi
Co-Founder of Spintex Knights Basketball Club, Dr. Eric Opoku-Antwi, delivered a blunt response to a question regarding Ghana’s basketball prospects by stating that the country needs to invest more in the sport.
Basing his stance on the absence of Ghanaian teams in the ongoing NBA backed Basketball Africa League (BAL) latter stages, Dr. Opoku-Antwi believes that basketball is an expensive sport and more funding needs to come in for Ghana to maximize its potential.
Knights competed in the BAL for the first time this year and became the first Ghana side to progress beyond the preliminary round but missed out progressing further after getting eliminated.
Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports ahead of Knights headline clash against big rivals Nungua Coldstore on Saturday, May 17 at the El-Wak Stadium, Dr. Opoku-Antwi commented on the issue stating,
“That is the statement I’ve been making; it’s an expensive sport. My take on this is that if you don’t have the money and the resources, sit home because they [BAL teams] are signing top level players to play for their teams so they can gain that visibility. If we are not ready to spend, we cannot make it up there.”

Knights are back to back Accra Basketball League Men’s Division I champions.
