Ghana Beat Cote D’Ivoire To Make U-20 Girls Cup Semis
Ghana scored three goals in either half to beat Cote D’Ivoire 3-1 in the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-20 Girls Cup of Nations in Kumasi.
The Black Princesses had a rough start to the game as the Ivorians were more confident and pushed for the opener.
But the team improved after the unimpressive opening 10 minutes as Mafia Nyame headed home from a well-delivered corner kick by Wasima Mohammed in the 14th minute.
The goal changed the momentum of the game as the Princesses pushed to double their lead.
The Ivorians had a chance to restore parity but their effort was saved by Ghana goalkeeper Afi Amenyaku.
The Black Princesses doubled their lead in the 21st minute as Maafia Nyame whipped in a cross from the left-hand side for Stella Nyameke to score.
Right after recess, Helen Alormenu had a chance to extend Ghana’s lead but her effort was saved.
Deperou Digbeu reduced the deficit for Cote D’Ivoire in the 54th minute.
A neat one-two between Mary Amponsah and Maafia Nyame led to a low shot by the latter, to beat the goalkeeper for the third goal.
The game ended 3:1 in favour of the Black Princesses to go top of Group A with 6 points.
Ghana will play the second-placed team in Group B in the semifinals of the U-20 Girls U-20 Cup of Nations.
