The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has bemoaned the increasing rate of lawlessness in the country.

According to him, the lack of enforcement of the several laws available in the country is causing a rather unfortunate increase in the level of lawlessness in the country.

“I feel our major problem as Ghanaians has to do with law enforcement, we have the laws in our statute books and we just don’t obey the law and so we are increasingly becoming a lawless society,” he said.

In an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, the Member of Parliament said his focus will e to ensure that the country’s laws are strictly adhered to if he was ever to be voted into office as President.

“ If I were a president for a day, I guess my focus would be on law enforcement; from the police to local authority and try and drive some changes there because we need to bring back ourselves to the narrow path of adhering to laws, if not we will have a problem” he said.

The MP’s frustration comes on the back of the recent killings of Police Officers on duty at Kasoa-Buduburam in the Central Region.
