Ghana has suspended its consular services to Italy after the European country reported several cases of coronavirus.

A statement from the Embassy of Ghana in Italy said the suspension was until further notice.

“The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana regrets to inform that due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in Italy, consular services to the general public will be suspended with immediate effect and until further notice. The embassy regrets any inconvenience that this  may cause.”

This means the embassy has suspended the issuance of visas to persons from Italian who want to travel to Ghana.

Italy has become Europe’s worst-hit country, with the deadly virus, after it recorded over 300 cases of coronavirus and over 11 deaths.

Some towns and cities in the country have been on lockdown to control the spread of the disease.

The situation in Italy has raised concerns among Ghanaian students in that country.
