Boxing legend Azumah Nelson has called for people who are serious to be involved in boxing for Ghana to get more world champions.
He said this in an interview with British media outlet Talk Sport in a wide ranging interview where he spoke about his career and other issues connected to the sport.
Azumah Nelson was a key guest at the recently held Battle of the Beasts Boxing Event at the Bukom Boxing Arena with the event having American Andrew Tabithi beating Ghana’s Jacob Dickson to win the WBC Bridgerweight title.
Former British heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Ghana’s Sports Minister Kofi Adams were among guests who were present at the event co-organized by Amir Khan’s AK Promotions and Sharaf Mahama’s Legacy Rise Sports.
After expressing how happy he was about events like the Battle of the Beasts aiding in promoting boxing in Africa, Azumah Nelson added that,

“It’s wonderful; I hope it can continue. I have been telling people that this country, we have a lot of world champions here but we need people who are serious. I always talk about our trainers. We need people to polish them so that they can polish their boxers so that we can get a lot of world champions here.”

Azumah Nelson and Anthony Joshua led a high powered delegation to meet Ghana President John Mahama at the Jubilee House.
