Ghanaian students in Hungary cry over delayed allowances

Ghanaian students studying in Hungary are appealing to the government to release their allowance, which has been on hold for nearly two years.

Many students indicated that campus life has become unbearable, with basic living expenses like rent, food, and utilities becoming unaffordable.

According to the affected students, the prolonged financial delay is not only hindering their academic progress but is also adversely impacting their mental health and well-being.

“This crisis is not just about money. It’s about our ability to survive, to study, and to stay mentally strong in a foreign country,” one student said.

Despite numerous attempts to seek assistance from the government of Ghana, their requests have gone unanswered. The students are urgently calling for action to prevent further harm to their education and livelihoods.

“We are appealing to the government to immediately release the 11 months of unpaid stipends and book allowances that are now two years overdue,” they said in a collective appeal.

“This is about our future and the future of Ghana,” they added.

Additionally, the students are requesting that the government establish a reliable payment system, provide emergency financial support, and facilitate direct communication between student leaders and officials.

They believe that regular dialogue could help prevent issues from escalating and ensure that students are supported during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, officials at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat have acknowledged the challenges faced by the students, indicating that they are working alongside the Hungarian government to find a resolution.

The students are hoping the government takes swift action before their dreams are shattered.
