Ghanaians roast MPs for turning parliament into ‘battlefield’

The dramatic scenes at the Appointments Committee vetting session on Thursday have sparked a wave of social media reactions, with users weighing in on the heated clash between the Minority and Majority sides.

The confrontation, which saw tables overturned and microphones broken, has left many questioning the conduct of MPs.

Some users have criticized the chaos, calling it a disgrace to parliamentary proceedings.

Others argue that tensions were bound to rise, given the high stakes of the vetting process.

Many netizens have taken particular interest in the Majority’s insistence on continuing beyond 10 PM and the Minority’s strong opposition, with debates raging over whether such late-night sittings undermine the quality of scrutiny or are necessary for efficiency.

Mr Afenyo-Markin’s defence of the Majority’s stance, insisting they won’t be stopped from asking the “necessary questions,” has also fueled online conversations.

Some have applauded his determination, while others see it as an attempt to justify disorder.

Meanwhile, rescheduling the session after 30 minutes of confusion, along with Mahama Ayariga’s apology, has done little to calm the online storm.

Reactions pour in from all sides, and the vetting drama continues to dominate discussions, setting the stage for another tense session when proceedings resume.

Them go cry blood, the vetting will continue. What were they thinking when Hon. Afenyo Markin was wasting time on irrelevant questions and trying to attack Hon Sam George?

Eric Osei

The chairman of the vetting committee is very weak. I think he is not fit to be chairman of even a kindergarten committee.

Kibamba Jomel

Pass ten pm and you want people to continue working. Naturally, fatigue will definitely affect quality.
Tomorrow is another day to continue.
Is it by force ??
How do you force colleagues to continue working after they admitted they couldn’t continue.
Power drunk.

Frank Kwesi Akley

This is not only despicable but shameful as well. MPs fighting to the extent that a table get damaged causing financial loss to the state. This is unacceptable.

After allowing a Ranking member to spend 3 hours on questions unrelated to the ministry in question, you want to leave and come back tomorrow for another sitting allowance. Concert!

Antwi Darko

Afenyo Markin’s is the cause of all these and threatening people. The minority group must pay for anything that have been destroyed.

Moses Dela Norgbedzie

How can we call these people honourables?
Those who voted for them should bow down their heads in shame

Jahwin Awuma

What sort of embarrassment is this?
How?
Honorables?
Did I see one trying to take off his suit to enable him fight properly?
