Ghana’s coronavirus case count shoots up to 287

Ghana’s coronavirus case count has jumped to 287, the highest leap ever since the country recorded its first case on March 12, 2020.

The latest data released by the Ghana Health Service indicates that 73 new people are infected with the deadly virus, which has killed five people. As of Monday, the number of infected persons stood at 214.

The dead are between the ages of 41-84.

Data from the Ghana Health Service surveillance team indicates that a total of 172 cases were reported from the routine and enhanced surveillance activities.

Those from travellers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale are 115.

According to the surveillance team, the period for mandatory quarantine for travellers who arrived 21-22 March 2020 had ended.

In all, a total 1,030 travellers were quarantined during the period. Out of these, 79 (7.7%) were positive during the initial testing while 951 were negative.

Among the mandatory quarantined, 26 people who initially tested negative could not celebrate their good news as a second test turned positive after an exit screening. This means 105 people among the travellers had contracted the disease.
