Ghana’s Fastest Man Rasheed Saminu set to face Thompson, Simbine, Omanyala in Budapest

Ghana’s 100m record-holder Abdul-Rasheed Saminu will test his blistering speed against a stacked line-up of the world’s sprinting elite at the István Gyulai Memorial in Hungary.

The highly anticipated men’s 100m final features:

  • Kishane Thompson (JAM) – World’s fastest man in 2025 with a personal best of 9.75s this June, silver medalist at the 2024 Olympics.
  • Akani Simbine (RSA) – South Africa’s sprint king, boasting a 2025 season’s best of 9.90s and 11 straight sub-10 seasons.

  • Ferdinand Omanyala (KEN) – Africa’s fastest man in history with a record 9.78s, and reigning Commonwealth Games champion.
  • Ronnie Baker (USA) – Veteran American star, 100m PB of 9.83s, and one of the fastest ever over 60m (6.40s).

  • Ackeem Blake (JAM) – 2024 Diamond League Final champion, PB 9.89s, and World Indoor 60m bronze medallist.
  • Rohan Watson (JAM) – Rising Jamaican sprinter, known for his explosive starts, clocking 6.58s indoors this year.

Saminu has enjoyed a breakout 2025 season, breaking Ghana’s national record twice: 9.86s in May and 9.84s in July, now ranking seventh in the world. This will be his first-ever race on the European circuit after ending his NCAA season in June.

The men’s 100m final is set for 17:27 GMT, and with so many sub-10 sprinters on the start line, fans can expect fireworks on the Budapest track.
