GoldBod extends gold trading license deadline to June 21

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for transitioning to its new gold trading license regime from May 21 to June 21, 2025, granting industry players a one-month reprieve.

A statement issued on Thursday, May 22, and signed by GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Kwame Minkah, revealed that the extension follows multiple appeals from stakeholders.

Under the revised directive, individuals and businesses operating with licenses previously issued by the defunct Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources may continue trading until the new deadline.

However, GoldBod made it clear that this is the final extension.

“Only holders of a GoldBod license will be allowed to purchase, sell, or deal in gold after June 21, 2025. The use of PMMC or Ministry-issued licenses will be prohibited beyond this date. Violators will be subject to penalties under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140),” the statement warned.

While the grace period permits continued gold trading, all export privileges tied to the old licenses have been revoked with immediate effect.

As of May 22, only GoldBod has the authority to export small-scale gold from Ghana.

This move centralises gold export operations under a single regulator and is part of wider reforms to tighten oversight in the sector.

GoldBod is urging all gold traders and dealers to begin or complete their license applications through its official website: www.goldbod.gov.gh.

Although applications can still be submitted after June 21, no trading activity will be permitted without a valid GoldBod license.

The agency called for full cooperation as it works to ensure transparency, accountability, and national interest in Ghana’s gold industry.
