Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, has stated that government continues to attach great importance to the creation of decent and sustainable employment.
He explained that the need to create sustainable employment and decent jobs requires that the jobs are economically, socially and environmentally-friendly.
“This is critical considering the fact that the world of work and the labour market are undergoing rapid changes.
“The changes are as a result of changes in climatic conditions, influx of sophisticated technologies and increasing trend of labour migration,” he indicated.
The minister stated this in an address read on his behalf by Gloria Borteley Noi, Director of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry.
She was speaking at the launch of the 2022 Green Regional Job Fair in the Western Region held in Takoradi.
It was on the theme “Green and Circular Economy: A sure way to creating decent and sustainable employment and jobs.”
The Green Job Fair was aimed at supporting the creation of green jobs and matching job seekers to available and sustainable jobs.
It was organised by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation under its European Union in Ghana-funded, GrEEn Project.
Over 20 businesses were present with more than 100 vacancies and openings accessible to youth, women, and returning migrants who participated in the Green Job Fair.
Laouali Sadda, Project Manager, GrEEn Project at SNV Ghana, noted that the project has focused on promoting access to basic services in our three areas of expertise: agriculture, energy and water.
The Western Regional Chairman of the AGI, Joseph Garbrah, said Green and Circular Economy was the path to take in achieving sustainable development in emerging economies such as Ghana’s.
It was in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development.
The rest were Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Labour Department, the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs and the Takoradi Mall.
