GPL: Nations FC provides reasons for abandoning match against Basake Holy Stars
Nations Football Club has released an official statement outlining the reasons for their decision to abandon their Ghana Premier League (GPL) match against Basake Holy Stars.
The Kumasi-based team walked off the field during the first half of the Round 33 match at Ayinase, following their dissatisfaction with a penalty decision.
Nations was trailing Holy Stars 1-0 after conceding a penalty in the 32nd minute. The situation escalated after a second penalty was awarded against Nations just minutes later, leading to heated exchanges between the players and officials of both teams.
In a statement issued by the club on Sunday, June 1, Nations expressed significant concerns regarding security and officiating as the main reasons for their decision to abandon the match.
“The level of officiating was extremely poor and fell well below the expected standard. This compromised the fairness and credibility of the match, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the competition” a portion of the statement read.

Nations led the league standings with three points and needed a win in one of their last two league games to win their first-ever league title.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to rule on the case in the coming days.
