Here are the electronic payment platforms approved by BoG

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has released a list of 26 institutions that have received regulatory approval to operate as payment service providers.

The apex bank released the list following the passage of the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987) and the publication on Licensing Application Pack for Payment Service Providers.

Mobile network operators undertaking mobile money transactions such as Airtel Mobile Commerce Ghana Limited, operators of AirteltiGO Mobile Money, and Vodafone Mobile Financial Services Limited, operators of Vadofone Cash were named.

The total value of mobile money transactions for 2020 hit a high of GH ¢569 billion, according to data from BoG.

This was largely due to the covid-19 pandemic which triggered upward transactions of mobile money in 2020.

In terms of mobile money interoperability, that is, the movement of cash from an account of one mobile service provider to another, the total value of transactions was GH¢5.6 billion.
