The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned alleged threats made by Hopeson Yaovi Adorye, a representative of the Movement for Change, against Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, the NPP’s Deputy Director of Communications.

The incident reportedly occurred during a live broadcast of UTV’s morning show, sparking public backlash and demands for accountability.

In a statement issued on April 17 and signed by NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah, the party expressed concern over the verbal threats and reaffirmed its stance on protecting women’s right to freely participate in political discussions.

“Ghana has made significant strides in driving women’s political participation and amplifying their voices in our national discourse. Threats of assault or actual assault on women for expressing their political views must not be tolerated,” the statement read.

The NPP further urged media houses, including UTV, to maintain safe and respectful environments for democratic engagement.

The party emphasised the need to uphold Ghana’s democratic values and protect free speech, especially for women in politics.
