Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has expressed dismay over the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) handling of allegations of financial misconduct against.

In a letter expressing his concerns, Mr. Ofori-Atta said he was shocked over the case and the news surrounding it.

For this, he said he felt compelled to share the facts of the matter with the public.

The Special Prosecutor has declared the former minister wanted over five corruption and corruption-related cases.

The cases involve the National Cathedral project, Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) & GRA contract, and ECG and Beijing Technology Limited contract termination.

The two others are the procurement of ambulances and GRA’s Tax Refund Account Payments.

The OSP published a wanted notice but later revoked the alert after Mr. Ofori-Atta agreed to voluntarily return to Ghana to respond to the charges.

“I have been in the news recently in quite a dramatic manner. I thought it important that I share with you the facts surrounding recent events and news articles concerning me and Ghana’s Special Prosecutor. I am as puzzled and dismayed as I suspect you must be,” he stated.

He explained that he “was out of the country on January 24 for medical reasons, when the Special Prosecutor invited me to an in-person meeting for Feb 10, 2025, in connection with four ‘corruption and corruption-related cases'”.

“I was not the originating nor implementing minister in any of these portfolios. I immediately responded through my lawyers, indicating my willingness to have them provide him with any information he may require to aid in his investigation, given that I will be out of the country for the next few months for medical reasons.”

The letter continued that the Special Prosecutor rejected the offer to meet with his lawyers, insisting on a firm date for his personal attendance.

He also revealed that the OSP has proposed a meeting in June to address the charges against him.

However, Mr. Ofori-Atta expressed a desire to resolve the case before the proposed June meeting.

“I pray that the Special Prosecutor will agree to meet with my legal team so we can respond to his investigation on the now five cases in order to resolve the situation expeditiously and well before the June appointment,” he stated.
