I miss Lynx Entertainment – MzVee

Less than two years after parting ways, afro dancehall singer MzVee has nostalgic feelings about her former record label, Lynx Entertainment.

The singer, born Vera Hamena Kpedo, explained that even though she misses the record label, she would rather be on her own due to some liberties she gets to enjoy as a ‘solo’ artist.

“I miss Lynx…being with a record label has its advantages and disadvantages, but I’ll say I have gotten into myself more, and I think Lynx groomed me into who I am now,” she noted.

Talking about personal growth after her one-year break from music, the ‘Bokor Bokor’ singer told Zion Felix, “At first I was just doing what I was told to do, but now I have a say in which programme I want to perform at and what I wouldn’t want to”.

The singer said she was super depressed for two years – 2017 and 2018 – and so the few months after leaving Lynx was a period of self-finding, rejuvenation, positive thinking and self-actualization.

The poor state of her mental being had affected her work and corporate colleagues.

MzVee first burst onto the Ghanaian music scene in 2012 as the lead singer of Lynx Entertainment’s girl band D3.

The band released hit singles such as ‘Good Girls Gone Bad’ and ‘Gyani Gyani’ before splitting at the end of 2013 due to the educational commitments of the young group members.

In 2015, the singer launched her solo career and was signed onto Lynx entertainment. The same year, she was crowned New Artist of the Year at the Ghana Music Awards.

But four years later, in 2019, she parted ways with the record label.

The singer is currently promoting her latest single with dancehall artiste Kelvinboy titled ‘Vanity’.

“Vanity is a motivational song that tackles the recent menace of acquiring quick money. It talks about humility in the quest for success as well as gratitude to God for every achievement,” she indicated.

The song comes at a time of increasing money rituals among the youth.
