I wish we have better structure for publishing and distribution of songs – Efya
Ghanaian musician, Efya is the latest artiste to add her voice to calls for improvement in the music industry.
Efya called for a more beneficial structure to oversee the publishing and distribution of songs in Ghana.
“Better structure for publishing and distribution in Ghana,” she said when asked about the one thing she wishes to change about the music industry.
Currently, the most commonly used music distribution platforms in Ghana are: Audiomack, Boomplay, Spotify and Apple Music, all of which are foreign-owned.
The music landscape has seen significant change with the advancement of technology.
Physical distribution is now a thing of the past, technology has enabled the distribution of music to reach a worldwide audience and global market, thereby increasing revenue for artistes.
However, it appears Ghana has not improved in this aspect, even though we have always had individuals in major institutions with the necessary skills and knowledge on distribution.
There are a few Ghanaian-owned music distribution platforms in Ghana at the moment. This could contribute to the reason Efya wishes to see more done in this aspect.
Speaking about her love life in an interview, May 7, 2025, she said: “I honestly don’t know what it’s going to be like because right now, all I know is me, myself and I. I know do want kids someday, yeah.”
