“If you do not register now, you cannot vote in December’ – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has emphasised the need for a collective responsibility of Ghanaians to ensure that Ghana’s register is credible.

“If you do not register now, you cannot vote in December,” President Akufo-Addo stressed.

President Akufo-Addo issued this directive ahead of Tuesdays new voters registration exercise.

According to the president, “we must all make sure that persons who do not meet the requirements set out clearly in the constitution, do not find their names in the register.”

He argued that the upcoming elections, slated for December 7, must be a Ghanaian election and not a West African one.

He urged all Ghanaians of legal age to come out in their numbers and register.

“Using your God-given and constitutional rights costs nothing, but staying home can come at a very steep price. The pandemic, notwithstanding, we have to strengthen Ghanaian democracy.

“It is virtually important that all eligible voters register, so on the designated day of December 7, they can vote to choose the president of the nation.

“In effect, our vote, our thumb, is the expression of our individual sovereign power as a citizen which we should cherish and guard at all times,” the president indicated.

President Akufo-Addo further assured all eligible voters of their safety at the over 33,000 polling stations across the country.

He stated that the Electoral Commission has put in place all the safety protocols to ensure everyone remains safe.
