The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has interdicted two police officers who allegedly shot and killed a 22-year-old man at Kasoa last Friday.

He has also directed the Kasoa Divisional Command to retrieve all police accoutrements in the possession of the two officers.

The two- Corporal Samuel Boamah and Lance Corporal Isifu Tahiru– are now in police custody assisting in investigation over the incident which occurred at a drinking spot.
During a confrontation which ensued at the JVC drinking spot where the officers had gone to drink, a pistol belonging to one of the officers was used in shooting the victim, Musah Mohammed.

Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, said the case is being handled as a murder case.

She explained that the Kasoa Divisional Police Command received a distress call that Corporal Boamah of the Kasoa Rovers Unit had shot and killed a civilian at Kasoa.
According to her, when the police proceeded to the scene, they gathered that L/Cpl Tahiru and Cpl Boamah had gone to the spot to drink, with L/Cpl Tahiru holding a sidearm loaded with 13 live ammunition.

There was a confrontation between the two policemen and some customers of the JVC. In the ensuing melee, Tahiru pulled out the gun in order to frighten the crowd.
She noted that at this point, Corporal Boamah reportedly snatched the gun and shot at the 22-year-old killing him instantly.

Until the incident, the two officers were members of the Rovers Unit of the Kasoa Divisional Police Command.
